NEW LEGISLATION PASSED

Home Inspectors will require licenses to operate in British Columbia as of March 31, 2009.  The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) will be responsible for licensing and administering the regulations.

In response to requests from the industry and consumers over the last several years, the recently introduced Home Inspector Licensing Regulation requires the licensing of all those individuals who assess the condition of a residential dwelling or property to have a license to practice in British Columbia.  Home Inspectors that meet the requirements of the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (BC) -- CAHPI(BC), Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia or the National CertificationProgram for Home and Property Inspectors, will qualify for a license.

The role of the BPCPA, an independent organization responsible for business practices and consumer protection in BC, will be to:  assess the qualifications of and to issue licenses to home inspectors; receive and respond to complaints from consumers; monitor compliance through inspections and enforcement.
